TOTD #2: Life Magazine and CloudFront

Today Google released LIFE magazine photo archive. This is pretty spectacular, but I don’t really have much to go on about, the photos pretty much speak for themselves.

CloudFront

I found out from a friend of mine that Amazon released CloudFront, a new competitor to the CDN market. It is a great thing for the small companies trying to get going because I believe the big CDNs have minimum agreements. The one downside is that you have to pay for S3 traffic too, so in some ways you are doubling costs of the traffic. If you really need multi-continent coverage though its probably one of the best routes, especially if you use Amazon Web Services.

Microsoft

This topic annoys me quite a bit, but once again it came up. Someone on a linux mailing list I belong to sent out an email with some bashing comments about Microsoft. A couple other people followed up with jokes that probably weren’t jokes. One of them happens to use Hotmail, a product I actually do dislike quote a bit. After emailing him and saying that he shouldn’t make comments since he is a Hotmail user he made some comments about me needing to lighten up.

Topic of the day

I am going to try to do one of these emails daily. Basically it is going to be a collection of various topics I was discussing with friends and coworkers that directly relate to technology. Hopefully it will keep me more active as a blogger. I will not be including anything work related so don’t follow just because you think one day I am going to leak some goodies about Google that are not public.
